The art of a healthy, happy life

About Me

Maria Saracen  BA, CHC, AADP

Hello, and welcome to my website! I love helping people from all walks of life learn about the earth-shattering, life-changing benefits of eating well and following a healthy, harmonious lifestyle.

Especially near and dear to my heart is helping smart, strong, ‘superwomen’ recover from burn-out and chronic exhaustion. Ladies, I know what you’re going through and I know how depressing it can be. (I spent over 10 years struggling to get to the bottom on my many health issues – you can read my full story below.) The good news is, no matter how sick, exhausted, anxious or overweight you may feel, you can get better.  You can get your life back!  It just takes knowledge, commitment and, I won’t kid you here, a fair amount of effort.  But it’s SO worth it!

Where do you begin? A good start for everyone visiting is to download my free guide: 7 Steps to BOOST Your Energy Starting Today. It’s filled with many easy, practical suggestions to help get you on the fastback to good health.  Also, please take time to explore the free articles, videos and other resources on this site.  If you want extra help and guidance with specific health issues, you can visit the special courses section. Some have been developed by me, others are products that I have tested and endorse.

So what are you waiting for?  Begin your transformation today!

Warmest wishes,
Maria - nicely written

P.S. Wondering what all those letters after my name mean?  I don’t blame you!  I’m a Board Certified Health Coach and a member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Linguistics, a postgraduate diploma in Marketing and Copywriting and I’m completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics (nutrition). What can I say, I love learning!

 5 Random things about me

  • I’m a natural brunette but my hair color changes frequently. Being thrifty, I always dye it at home – which sometimes often leads to disaster.
  • I was born in Greece and Greek was my first language.  Now all I remember are a few words like ‘kolikithopita’ and ‘karpuzi’ (‘pumpkin pie’ and ‘watermelon’ – you can see where my priorities lie!)
  • I grew up on a game reserve in South Africa.  The ‘wooop, wooop’ of hyenas lulled me to sleep each night…and sometimes the leopards on the roof woke me up.
  • My accent changes every time I move to a new country.  Someone once told me this must be because I have a musical ear. Not likely, considering I’m borderline tone-deaf.
  • I’d much rather be comfortable than look good.  I’m usually the most unglamorous person in an airport – sweatpants, sneakers, no make-up. That’s me!

My Personal Journey

As a writer and Emmy-nominated television producer, I never thought I would ever be inclined to change the focus of my career. My body, on the other hand, had other plans! For over a decade I struggled with chronic exhaustion and illness. I saw countless doctors, had countless tests and was given more medications than I care to remember. It was always a case of covering up the symptoms and not getting to the root of the cause. Maybe I would have put up with this if it was working, but it wasn’t. I decided enough was enough – I had to find some other way to get well.

That’s when I discovered the ‘miracle’ of proper nutrition. Not just a healthy diet (because I was already eating well), but actually fine-tuning my diet to figure out which foods make me feel great.  But it isn’t just about food. I also cut back on my ‘crazy’ schedule, started exercising and made more time to relax and do the things I enjoy. Once I got used to having my life back, I began wondering how to help others do the same.  I researched schools, compared programs and decided to enroll at IIN™.  As the saying goes, I’ve never looked back!

The moral of the story is that if  you’re in the same boat that I was in – if  your health is making you miserable or if your life isn’t what you ‘ordered’, I encourage you to see your situation – this very moment – as an opportunity. An opportunity to grow wiser and stronger, and get more in touch with your body, mind and overall life purpose. Begin by making the commitment to take better care of yourself, to strive daily to make healthier choices. Little by little, you’ll be be amazed by the life you can create!
